"To assist vets back to a good life."

Jesse Taylor

I was born and raised in Waycross, Georgia I was always outdoors hunting, fishing, and playing sports in high school. I graduated in 1963 and joined The US Army in 1964. I completed Basic and AIT at Fort Gordon Georgia and went on to Fort Benning for jump school. My first assignment was the 82nd Airborne, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

I was sent to The School of America’s for jungle training in Panama. After I completed my training, I was returned to Ft. Bragg. In May, 1967 I received orders to the 101st Airborne in Vietnam; I arrived in Vietnam on July 5, 1967. I was assigned to Cutthroat 1/327 Airborne Infantry, 1st Brigade Seperate. The first month I was in Vietnam, we operated in Phan Rang with only minor contact. In September, the ball game changed. We were attached to The Americal Division in the Central Highlands. Now we had a new enemy, the NVA. For my actions in battle, I received The Silver Star. It was pined on me by Vice President, Humphrie.

I lost a lot of brothers in that God forsaken place, and I had the honor of working with the most professional military men. These Men will remain my Brothers for ever, and I will never forget the ones we left behind. The men that made it back will forever be part of me. That is why I started Vets Helping Vets Anderson. I believe in a commitment to all Veterans, because I understand the personal struggles that come with being a part of the military.
