"To assist vets back to a good life."

T.W. Wheeler

Hello, my name is Tharrell Wesley Wheeler, I was born December, 1946. On that day, I was literally born in the snow. My dad went to the neighbors for help, but by the time the ambulance had arrived, I was born in the snow. After finishing school, I went straight to basic training in Fort Leonard Wood. I took my military police(MP) training at Fort Sheridan. After my training was complete, I asked my commanding officer to transfer me so that I could participate in Vietnam. After a few months, my request was granted.

I attended additional warfare training, and was stationed in Germany in 1968 where I served with the 51st MP unit. While there I guarded a hawk site in Wackerhaim where I suffered serious frost bite, and almost lost my left foot. Five months later, I was tasked to take a nine-man team to Bangkok to perform hotel duties for soldiers coming out of Vietnam. I resumed my original duties afterwords until I received my separation orders.

After returning home, I worked for the Seaboard Rail Road for two years until another opportunity presented itself, and I became a truck driver going coast to coast for several years. Later I decided that I needed to give up truck driving to spend more time with my family. I took a job at Contech Construction Products for 25 years until I retired.

I wouldn't trade my time in service for anything. All of my medals, and accomplishments I owe to God.

I just want to thank Vets Helping Vets Anderson for the privilege to be a part of a well-organized group of veterans. HOORAH!
